OUR STORY
Strettonia Boxing and Fitness Gym, originally known as “Strettonia Amateur Boxing Club” was originally founded in the early - 20th century and is remembered as part of the towns working-class sporting culture. Many young individuals used the club in the early 1900’s, before and during the Second World War.
The club was part of the wider tradition of amateur boxing clubs that flourished in small British towns between the 1920s and 1950s, often linked to community halls, fairs and local athletic competitions which is still part of Strettonia’s ethos today.
Strettonia ceased operations in the late 20th century but has since been reborn around 7 years ago, now home to a thriving pool of talented young boxers and fitness minded individuals alike from Church Stretton and the surrounding areas. The club has ever since been in the hands of the community, formally becoming a CIO “Charitable Incorporated Organisation”, certifying its role as a community-focused sporting organisation.
The club has always focused strongly on youth engagement and community work helping young people develop discipline, respect and confidence with coaches providing adult and junior boxing sessions, women-only sessions and 1:1 fitness coaching.
